I've taken projects from the first sketch through to handover, then stayed on to run them. That last part taught me the most.
Most of what a building costs, and how well it works, is settled early — in the drawings and the decisions. So I spend the time there, with the team, before anything is built.
On site the job is simple: a clear plan, short check-ins every morning and evening, and walking the site myself.
